Ceramic knife rest, "Le Lion & Le Rat", 1980
Ceramic knife rest, "Le Lion & Le Rat", 1980
There is an extra of LM and an unhighlighted extra of GA. The highlights accent parts of the picture and the capital letters in the title. I have searched the web for further members of this set, with no luck yet. Might these be less good than knife-rests with a level center?

Ceramic "Le Lievre et la Tortue" Plate, 1920
This plate is exactly like others in the series but smaller in dimension. The tortoise is near the goal as the hare sleeps on.
Ceramic plate of FC by "Jars, France pour F & S.", 1920
This colorful plate has the crow leaning down to hear the fox's compliments just before he drops the round of cheese. A light colored stream edges the field in the background, with pleasant reeds, leaves and grasses filling out the scene. The fox, though his back is to us, looks up expectantly.
Ceramic plate of GA by "Jars, France pour F & S.", 1920
This colorful plate contrasts the brown of the grasshopper with the black of the ant. There is a sack, presumably of grain, in front of the ant's substantial home. Flowers and meadows seem to be blooming; is that appropriate for this scene, in which the grasshopper comes to the ant in winter?
Ceramic plate of "The Heron" by "Jars, France pour F & S.", 1920
This colorful plate has the heron standing on one leg in the midst of calm water. Two features mark this excellent scene. One is that there is no other creature present. The artist rightly shows how the heron is at the center of his own world. Secondly, his eye looks out at us with something like disdain. Disdain drives the heron in this fable.
Chansons de la Fontaine, 1997
Chez Jean Broadsides, 1870
I am surprised that this very fragile piece arrived intact. It seems to have five colors: red, pink, yellow, brown, and green. "Fox in the Well"; "Fox and Bust"; CJ; WL; TH; and "The Man with the Wooden Idol." The color seems to be applied to areas rather than to the outlines of difficult objects like bushes
Chicorée Extra "A la belle Jardinière", 1890
Chicorée Extra Single Cards Daniel Voelcker-Coumes à Bayon, 1920
Chicorée à la Ménagère Cards, 1910
The verso mentions also "Chocolat Inimitable." This couple needed not running but a prompt start in order to get onto this departing train.
Children's Paintbox "le Renard et la Cigogne", 1950
Chloro-Platine WL, 2013
Chocolat Guérin-Boutron Mechanical Cards, 1890
Chocolat Payroud Scraps, 1900
Chocolat Poulain, 1895
This card replicates one advertising "Aux Deux Passages." A surprising thing is that Chocolat Poulain used various kinds of fable cards to advertise. The curtsy here that invites the cicada to dance is beautifully rendered but downright mean!
Chocolat Poulain Gold Background Cards, 1910
Chocolaterie d'Aiguebelle, Extra of Les Deux Voyageurs, 1890
Very pleasing cards, with better illustration work than on many such cards. The framing of the picture is done well, with a flowing ribbon moving up from the Aiguebelle credit at the bottom alongside the illustration and fable title and past the "Fables de Florian" group title at the top of the card. The verso presents the full fable text. The coloration reminds one of the coloring of fine "holy cards" in one-time Catholic grade schools.
Chocolaterie d'Aiguebelle, extras of Le Roi et les deux Bergers, 1890
Very pleasing cards, with better illustration work than on many such cards. The framing of the picture is done well, with a flowing ribbon moving up from the Aiguebelle credit at the bottom alongside the illustration and fable title and past the "Fables de Florian" group title at the top of the card. The verso presents the full fable text. The coloration reminds one of the coloring of fine "holy cards" in one-time Catholic grade schools.
Chocolaterie d'Aiguebelle, Set of 6, 1890?
Very pleasing cards, with better illustration work than on many such cards. The framing of the picture is done well, with a flowing ribbon moving up from the Aiguebelle credit at the bottom alongside the illustration and fable title and past the "Fables de Florian" group title at the top of the card. The verso presents the full fable text. The coloration reminds one of the coloring of fine "holy cards" in one-time Catholic grade schools.
Chocolats Félix Potin, 1940
This card seems so similar to many series we have found, yet I cannot connect it to any. The illustrated scene is quite original, since the town mouse appears with his wife or girlfriend, in lovely period costume. The town mouse seems surprised to find his cousin smoking a cigar in his field!
Chromo trade card of Goose and the Golden Egg, 1930
This is one of those trade cards with lovely coloring and energetic action, here sadly that of killing the hen. There is nothing I can find on this card to identify who printed it or when.
Circular Cartoon Cake Plate, 1975
This large cake-plate features characters from all five smaller plates. These include FC, GA, MM, WC, and "The Lion and the Mosquito."
